It's custom fit to provide the needed support for the neck, so when the lid is closed, the foam in the lid and the foam in the bottom of the case sandwich your guitar, allowing the instrument to float   in foam, while being transported. This is extremely important for the protection of the most fragile point on a guitar - where the neck is attached to the body.
